Overcommitting yourself is a lot like quick sand.

So I find myself typing here more than a week after my latest blog post. It's not that there haven't been any interesting things to blog about, certainly the American debt ceiling, and 4th of July parties are just mere crests in the sea of epic things that have been going on.

Something that I've been thinking more and more about is a persons commitment to something. Whether it be an activity or hobby of interest, commitment always comes into it before the passion fueled for that recreation. With the whole idea of commitment I can't help but also think about how easy it is to become over committed. It's super easy to just sign up for too much. Something that I am afraid I've fallen victim too.

In my efforts to list off the activities and interests and hobbies, and other assorted tasks that I am currently signed up for, I feel this overwhelming feeling of tension. It's a sort of tension where I am striving for more, pulling for more, but am not getting the energy and attention I need to fully succeed in the areas I'm set up in. And it's extremely frustrating because once somebody develops passion for a multitude of things, it becomes very difficult to let those interests go.

Now, I understand I am only but a fraction of the population whose lives are probably filled with over commitment, but I urge you here to take a step back and wonder if the activities you are pursuing, (interests, hobbies, or whatever time consuming activities that may be) are actually taking away from your inner drive. Some people do well having several main plugs into their inner drive, while others can deal with hundreds of smaller habits. Whatever the case is, if you feel you are over committed, just remember you can always change to suit your best needs and wants.
