Dew Tour 2011 Breckenridge highlights.

Who doesn't love watching snowboarding films?

With the new Go Pro HD cameras they've come out with in the past several years I've upped my ante of watching Warrem Miller films (which are still awesome without a doubt) to watching these snowboard and ski super heroes across the planet film themselves with Go Pro Cameras.

I could literally watch these films all day, and if they don't get your blood flowing and make you want to strap on your skis andhit the slopes then I'd check your pulse. Skydiving videos, ski videos, B.A.S.E. and snowboard videos are just a few of what these go pro cameras are used for. And I can't wait to get my own and make killer vids like this one below.

How To Make Money On The Go.

With more people blogging, perhaps staying at home or even working from home, people have been searching for ways to make more of an income while at home. No doubt that it;s a tough economy and people aren't necessarily making as much as they used to. But the online market is booming. Those peksy ad placements that you see on twitter, or on facebook, or whatever site that your visiting and they pop up and in front of you and make you watch them? (See www.ESPN.com)

It's all part of ad placements. Ad campaigns have been ramping up their efforts to get you. See for example HERE, you can click you won't get viruses (click here to see what I'm talking about).

Many people believe that ads also such as this, are going to give you viruses. They will not. It's all about exposure and some companies even pay bloggers to do so. While it's not all a gimmick, some of them surely can be. But think about how fatally tough it is for new companies to get themselves out there unless  they resort to sneeky ads that get their image, name, and business out there.

Good news for bloggers, advertisers, or whatever is that they can make money simply by posting most of these links within their blog pages. See again for instance, click HERE. And potentially now you've help a blogger make some money. Easy as that, now go on the hunt to find the sites that will help you make the most out of blogging as well.

Matt Damon and Obama.

I just came across a particularly good article about Matt Damon and President Barack Obama.

The article was mostly speaking about how Matt Damon, among a horde of other Hollywood stars, endorsed then Senator Obama for President. No doubt that majority of these endorsements led to huge successes in Barack Obama's presidential conquest, and allowed him to flourish in the midst of change. But former President George W. Bush already saw an epic collapse and failure of the American economy looming. Even before Barack Obama's first term, many investors, and people high up on Wall St. saw the coming colapse. Read any major news article source from a few years back about the coming crises that we faced, and are now coping with.

This in turn has led much of a dropy task on current President Obama. Even in the news pictures and media, he appears weary. Dragged down by negative nancy Republicans in the senate and the house of representatives. There has been, to say the least, much disinterest in Obama as of late. Perhaps even a load of disappointment. Yet, he obviously will be running for re-election in 2012 against what looks like could be Mitt Romney or Newt Gingrich. (We'll save the Gingrich article for later)

My thoughts have been unclear until I read this Matt Damon article. Damon, who has appeared in articles at least in my time, since the first term of George W. Bush, seems to have a good holding of political ideas on his side. Without re-quoting the article I'm first going to suggest you go off to www.huffpost.com and brush up on your daily dose of American politics. Damn, Scarlett Johannsen, and a host of other stars in Hollywood often voice their opinions. What I especially liked about Damon, who avidly campaigned for Obama's first election to President, was that 3 years later he said, ""You know, a one-term president with some balls who actually got stuff done would have been, in the long run of the country, much better."

That was a ballsy statement Matt Damon.

At the same time, I feel his anger. While this quote does not entirely represent what Matt Damon said in a recent interview with the Huffington Post, I see where he is coming from. Obama could have came out swinging, pissing Republicans off, but in his first term as President, he seemed to roll over when it came to the real tough stuff. John Boehner didn't help much, nor did other Republicans and even Democrats. One man can only do so much and if Barack Obama gets re-elected to a second term, let's hope he takes the gloves off and shows America what change really can mean in the era of 10% unemployment and the times when corporate banks have become too big to fail.

How to make money blogging.

There's a variety of ways to make some money online, most of which I have been skimming through on the internet for the past few hours.

Anyone can google, "how to make money blogging" but when you come to the actual gritty parts of it, you'll find out it does take a true online artist to begin creating revenue.

There's very few people who can actually make a substantial living off their blogs, most of the times it's renowned authors who have turned to the online world to create more of a profit. But alas, there are ways to support your daily coffee habit through the means of blogging. Let's go over a few simple steps since you your means of googling things to find the answers has brought you here.

Step One: Create your blog.
Here is where you go back to google and search through a variety of finger punching websites that will allow you to publicize rants, opinions, or simply talk about the things and people you admire. My personal preference has been here on blogger. It's very easy and intuitive to pick up from the very beginning, which will hopefully allow me to jump right in on to another blog in the future when I narrow my direct focus upon entering the real world and into college.

Step Two: You've got to blog about what you like. Find your focus and go for it. You shouldn't strictly be blogging from the beginning to just make money. Gain interest, talk about stuff you like and through the process you'll find yourself opening up to new ideas and looking at other blogs. Take ideas from popular blogs, such as layout ideas and make your site worthy of interest when viewers first arrive to it.

Step Three: Implement Ads and Cater to people: Programs such as Google Analytics and AdSense can help you to create ads on your page that will gain clicks by viewers. Other pages such as www.socialspark.com and www.blogsvertise.com work well too. There are numerous ones out there that you can check out and begin using. They're all of relative ease, just sign up and don't forget to keep checking on them.

Step Four: Gain an Audience.
In order for people to begin clicking on ads and advertising for other companies on your blog, you've got to gain an audience. This means sharing your blog with facebook, twitter, and just put it out there with a bunch of tags so you can gain that audience you've been looking for. In time, and along with a slight learning curve, you should begin to accrue some revenue. Be sure to sign up with paypal and link it to a multitude of sites so you can get paid via online sites. You can also link up your paypal to your bank account because it's secure and allows for complete customization which is nice when figuring out what you'd like to do with it.

Good luck my friends. - Cam

Whether you're at work or school, feel free to use just a handful of these tips below to help you get back into it. I've recently implemented a few things such as moving my gym time to the morning and partaking in yoga, also changing my socks every few hours to help improve my energy levels. I just need to....jump out of a plane.

Woof!

Finally finished my two BIGGEST projects for finals week. And I'm sure most of the campus is feeling some sort of relief after about a week of all-nighters and everyone being addicted to redbull and adderall by now, I'm sure people will start getting back to their normal sleep schedules.

But something is still irritating me in the back of my mind. It's that itch for a near death experience, it's that...rush.

I just want to jump out of a plane. We're coming up on TWO MONTHS without my adrenaline rush fix that I so desperately have come to be accustomed to. I know, poor me right. Such a dull lifestyle.

Ok, ok, no more rants. But can't you relate to needing that exciting feeling in your life? Everyone feels it at some point, and I guess the lucky half of us know EXACTLY what it is and when we need it. I might be in luck if I can get myself to some warm wather soon. If not, snowboarding will have to carry me through until spring time.

I strongly urge you to find your, 'fix' because skydiving is the only real high I need. Forget about drugs, real life adrenaline rushes can't be beat, and they don't get old. Stay in school! Don't do drugs and don't forget...SKYDIVE!

Profile Story: Louwanna

Cameron King

Profile Story

KEENE, N.H.- Louwanna Newton has survived more than most, from being pronounced deceased to her entire middle school after barely escaping a tornado, to having a triple miscarriage in the parking lot of a BJ’s superstore. Her epic story reminds us that everyone, everywhere has an epic story.

It was not until Louwanna Newton, born in Hudson Massachusetts, at seven years old saw her first near death encounter. Her youngest brother, born Wane Cody in 1962 said was attempting to catch a blue bird out of a second story window when he plunged head-first down to the concrete. Louwanna Cody, 7 years old at the time, had left the window open before going to a friend’s house. Newton recalls receiving a sobbing phone call from her father, screaming incoherently. It wasn’t until the stifling moment that as Louwanna remembers as, “absolutely horrendous” that she saw her bloodied brother in her mother’s arms, everyone in the house screaming and filled with tears.

“I cried for days after” said Louwanna Newton, born in 1961 in Hudson Massachusetts.

“I just remember sitting there crying and screaming with my whole family. My mother was yelling, ‘Wayne! Wayne! Wake Up!’.”

Wayne Cody never quite recovered. Dubbed, “miracle baby” for surviving by the doctors, now he is 47 years old and living self-sufficiently with permanent brain damage and a permanent limp, Louwanna Newton recalls that incident as, “Her most vivid memory.”

Newton, who has expressed severe regret about leaving that one window open said she’s never been physically distraught like that. At seven years old she became so ill that she joined her brother Wayne in the hospital during his 17 day coma and four month recovery phase before coming home. Louwanna had been diagnosed with her first round of whooping cough and severe pneumonia.

“I’ve been through a lot, and it seems like it hasn’t stopped since I was seven.” Said Newton.

Newton’s father headed the family of five children. And while Louwanna Newton admitted that she didn’t quite grow up in the most lavish community, “my parents always found a way to figure it out, despite us being on the edge eviction all the time.”

Newton also recalls that near one Christmas her family was indeed struggling. “Figuring out how to pay the bills was a priority, but we had no money my parents still figured out how to buy my brother and I two brand new bikes for Christmas.”

Though there are many bright spots in Louwanna’s life, she remembers the worst memories a bit more clearly. On her way home after being picked up from school in Marlborough, Massachusetts when she was 10 years old, her and her father saw a multi-car wreck on the highway, directly in front of them that all started with a flipped 18 wheeler. Newton recalls venturing out with her father to see if people were ok. What Louwanna saw would stick with her forever.

“Half of his head was gone. He was sitting there with half of his head decapitated. The truck driver that is.”

Shortly after that traumatizing event, and a short stint in Shegrin Falls Ohio, Newton’s family moved to Deerwood, Minnesota. At 12 years old Louwanna suddenly found herself in the care of a neighbor’s home, as her parents went back to Massachusetts to take care of Louwanna’s deathly ill grandmother.

With her brother and sisters old enough to take care of themselves Louwanna found herself and her younger sister passed on to the care of a neighbor. “They fed us hours after they had ordered takeout for themselves. They were nasty people. Sometimes I’d sit there just watching them eat, expressing no remorse. They’d eventually give me and my sister some cold pasta right before bed.”

After surviving several more ordeals through whopping cough, and rheumatoid pneumonia, Louwanna’s family elected to move back to Massachusetts after the passing of her grandmother. The Cody family was on their way back to Massachusetts, just a few days before Louwanna’s return to school for 6th grade back in Massachusetts. The day was April 3th, 1974 and her family was caught in the famous Clover Leaf tornado in Cleveland. Newton recalls, “The hail was a big as grapefruits. It was like hell out there.”

After being stranded for several days in ruptured Cleveland, Ohio, Louwanna was presumed dead by her school and a moment of silence was held in her memorial at Hudson Middle School.

The next year Louwanna’s family once again found themselves in severe debt of their home mortgage and was forced to look at other options. Newton’s father looked no further than the woods. “We built a log cabin in the woods, just the 7 of us.”

A log cabin that still stands in the woods of Marlborough, Massachusetts today.” It has no running electricity but is rented out to adventurous families.” said Newton.

A few more years later down the road and Louwanna Newton in 1994 is kidnapped. “I had a cracked out ex- boyfriend that I met just after I got this bartending job at a bowling alley.” One night while Louwanna Newton slept at her home in Hudson, Massachusetts she was awoken by Dennis Marley who had been smoking PCP and crack-cocaine kidnapped her at gunpoint and locked her in his laundry closet at his apartment nearby.

“I was terrified, but at the same point I had to keep cool.” Newton said. She lay quiet, never having experienced one of Dennis’ fits of rage such as this one. Hours later, in the early hours of the morning, Newton decided it was time for decisive action. “I got into this hole in one of these old laundry chutes and kept pushing through till I got somewhere.” Without waking her ex-boyfriend that had lain asleep only feet away, Louwanna Newton called the police from a side apartment’s telephone.

“It took about eight cops to finally restrain him. He wouldn’t give in, but he ended up serving 10 years.” Said Newton. She also has a restraining order on him.

In 2001, Newton had finally worked her way up to not only managing the entire bowling alley, but also serving as its entertainments area bartender. “We had these massive weekly pool tournaments each week, there must have been at least a hundred people each week.” Said Newton.

It wasn’t until a busy Friday night, where Louwanna was tending at the bar, when she heard it. “This woman wheezed the loudest I’ve ever heard, and then hit the floor. Right in front of her husband and son. I had to do something it was my bar.” Newton recalls rushing over to a woman, the name of which escapes her to this day, but giving her mouth to mouth. “I wasn’t CPR certified or anything but I knew what to do.”

Newton remembers a crowded bar surrounding this wife and mother. “I picked her up and walked her over to the front of the alley shouting for someone to call 9-1-1….she never survived though, she died right there.”

Suffering two aneurisms, the woman on Louwanna Newton’s back was already dead. With over 100 witnesses to verify.

Fast forward four months later and Louwanna Newton, newly divorced but keeping her last name, gets arrested for selling a few grams of marijuana in the parking lot of her employer, the bowling alley.

“4 months in jail and you know what they told me? That I was being made an example of.” Said Newton.

Louwanna, now a custodian for a cleaning company called UNNICO said, “I’ve been through a lot. I was recommended for psychotherapy because after I had an early triple miscarriage in that parking of a BJ’s superstore after coming back from a weekend at Foxwoods. I cleaned up, I went shopping, then realized it wasn’t over.” Newton’s boyfriend at the time then took her to the nearest hospital for the fourth miscarriage, and was then told that she had been four months pregnant with quadruplets.

“In that parking lot I didn’t know what was happening, subconsciously I just pulled my pants down and let nature take its course. I didn’t know what it was so I cleaned up and then went shopping for what I originally came for. Then I realized I had to go back to the hospital.”

Louwanna Newton who has had a total of 16 pregnancies said, “Every time I went on birth control, it just happened that I got pregnant. Just like my mother too. She even had a miscarriage while she was walking down the aisle.”

Newton, a strong advocate for women’s rights is saddened by her losses. “My first born child was a twin. I’ve told him that he’s got a brother waiting for him in heaven.”

Newton has two children that live within distance of her current home in Swanzey, New Hampshire. She hasn’t traveled further than Minnesota and admits that throughout her younger years, she has taken drugs. Louwanna’s oldest sister, Linda Cody, lives with intense schizophrenia, while her older brother Bill, and younger sister Lisa are the siblings she most speaks with. Wayne Cody, the, ‘miracle baby’ lives by himself in Massachusetts and sadly isn’t as frequently in touch with Louwanna.

Louwanna’s oldest son has a regressive brain disorder from eating contaminated plastic products when he was 16 years old, which has ceased his brain development from maturing. While at 32 years old, Louwanna said, “He still acts as if he’s 16, getting caught up in bad decisions and being very selfish. He wanted me to drive him to New York at 2 A.M. when I had to be up for work at 5 A.M. He just doesn’t get it.”

At 50 years old Louwanna Newton shows as much fight as ever. During a recent pass by Carle Hall, Newton was heckled by a group of students who shouted, “I’ll kill you!” In response, Newton went up to this young man’s face told the young man to quit smoking because it was bad for his health.

Overall, Louwanna Newton said, “I’ve lived a strong life. At the end of the day I look back on things and say it may have been a struggle, but life’s been very good to me.”

Those pesky finals.

I hate finals. And if it weren't for the pre-ancient computers and lack of direction from professors I might be able to lounge back in my chair and sip on a beer right about now.

Sadly, this isn't the case. There's very little I like about this week and that's why I'm going to stop before I get off on another rant about how frustrating it is to deal with professors that have just learned the ins and outs of a technological age. To leave you with some intriguing thoughts, I find it very funny that today's professors who are teaching the youth did not have access themselves to many of today's wonderful technologies. Vastly comparing todays generations styles of learning to those of just over a decade or two ago, seem to be remarkably different and truly show. Perhaps I'm irritated at my own procrastination techniques, but honestly professors. Don't update your students on how to finalize multiple projects on the last day of class, and assign a brand new project due on finals day.

Just when I thought I was done for the semester. Hmmm. Guess this means no snowboarding for me tomorrow.

Spot On Dylan Ratigan....Spot On.

Dylan Ratigan is an msnbc host, who in this clip hits the nail on the head as to what Obama should do to ail the tanking economy, and goes into deep detail as to why we should get the money out of politics. I can't stress how important this clip is in these dire times, and hopefully you are keen enough to realize that we are in trouble in this country. The time for change is now. Comments are more than appreciated.

Winter, Economy Killer.

So with the first day back of strapping up my snowboard laces, and getting on the lift for the first time this season at Okemo, it sucks to say that I was sorely disappointed.

It's not your fault Okemo, apparently someone forgot to call for winter weather and wake up that grouchy bastard. November felt oddly warm, nearing September-like temperatures on day and boasting plenty of brilliant sunshine. It definitely still feels like Fall today, with temperatures reaching 50 degrees.

It's December 4th, in New Hampshire...I'd like to see some snowfall at least sometime before Christmas. We got a healthy amount of snow on Halloween which was pretty intense. We got over a foot of snow, and it was a blast, a real good time for sure. That night my Halloween costume happened to be my snowboard gear.

But with the first day at Okemo, and only two trails open? I definitely dropped an F-bomb more than a few times because the only trail at the top that was open was a wide open and nearly flat green circle. And of course I forgot to wax my board before going to the mountain this year, so I was basically grinding my board all the way down. I had to unstrap a few times and 'skate' towards a steeper part of the mountain which was frustrating, but totally my fault.

Nonetheless, I'm praying for snow. Getting to the mountain and just shredding is one of the most relaxing things that I've recently been able to get back into and it'd be nice if we could get in a few inches of snow more frequently. I'm sure everyone here at school feels the same as well. And for the ski and snow industry? I bet this warm weather is killin' em. Talk about a bad economy, this warm weather is nice, but let's top delaying the inevitable. We live in New England, we're ready for the snow and bitter cold, and those of us that go to the mountains for our winter entertainment, we thrive on it. This is your official wake up call Winter. Get to it.

National Geographic Adventure in Learning to Skydive and B.A.S.E. Jump

This is a really cool documentary for people interested in learning how to skydive and B.A.S.E. Jump. A National Geographic TV show host goes through the learning aspects of becoming a licensed skydiver and eventually moves all the way up to B.A.S.E. Jumping the Eigor Mountain in Switzerland. It's pretty kickass and definitely worth a view. A lot can be learned by this from a beginner perspective, intermediate ane even experts may pick up a few things. Check it out for sure.

For when you've reached a goal without knowing it.

It occassionally happens, we reach a goal that we've been long dreaming for, often without realizing it and the peak moment is about to happen. The planets finally align and you knock the ball out of the park.

For those of you that have reached a long term goal, whether it was making a certain amount of salary, or earning those hard lost pounds, it feels great. Often times we make strenuous attempts at blasting through our finish line goals, or it seems that they will never come to fruition. I'm being vague here for a purpose, and for lackl of a better reason, I haven't been blogging about a few things because I've had to mentally collect myself and idenitfy more than a few thoughts I've got swirling in my head at the moment.

I had a certain goal for over 14 years and again, for reasons I can't share at the moment, the planets did align on Thursday night and I crushed the ball out of the park. It was epic nonetheless, and I still can't quite figure out what to make of it.

I feel great, no doubts about that, but in a way when you finally capitalize and finish a long term goal we often find ourselves not knowing when to stop, or losing our way because a long term goal has finally been toppled. So, where do we go?

I can't honestly say at this point, with finals coming up next week and the last week of classes being this week, I currently find myself de-motivated working in the journalism lab with nothing but a few mediocre assignments to wrap up. What do I do? Why am I not ecstatic? Is that it?

To wrap up my distinctive vagueness here I am oddly happy about the goal I reached and quickly surpassed. It was not easy, and well worth it. I suppose I'm just ready for break. I went to Okemo to snowboard yesterday and at this point, that's my next goal is just to ride and enjoy winter. I suppose in writing this quick blurb that after you reach a tough goal and achieve your desired outcome, the next answer is to take a break. Relax and give yourself a pat on the back for your hard earned achievements.

Obama's Re-Election Chances.

This is a tough subject, and the reason behind blogging about this is because I'm not seeing enough of it in the news. Obama certainly seems like he's got a rocky hill to climb, but what are his actual chances?

This all comes in spite of having a supremely deep conversation with one of my co-workers today. Me being the energized political enthusiast that I am, I began to defend Obama's presidency thus far without even doing my research as to what he's done lately. While the highly controversial health care bill that passed into law, I'd say Obama has been doing more than a decent job as president. Now, keeping in fact that I am not an extreme liberal, nor a right wing conservative, I think it's a fair assumption that the bad economy cannot be blamed on Obama alone. I would clearly say that the backlash in terms of the banking system and a refugee of old industries that have been taken over by computers and machines has led to a long lasting recession that will force this country into a new direction.

The old industries that America once thrived on, such as car factories, and mining mills, as well as other production factories have now been taken overseas by cheaper labor and a lower cost of production for the same items. This is why our toys and electronics are made overseas as opposed to on American soil. Big Business is trying to lower costs, thus sending away jobs.

I could comment on a few other things, but in this case I'll leave it short. What do you think Obama's chances of being re-elected are? There is so much coverage about the Republican nomination, and personally I believe Mitt Romney will get it. (The other candidates seem to be coming out of their own sort of reality TV show) and it's truly terrifying. I wonder who will come out on top, but more importantly, why isn't Obama being covered as thoroughly as other Presidents have been in their terms. The last single term president was George H. Bush, and that was a bit before my time. But with the last two Presidents being two term presidents, does this mean we're destined for another two term President? What do you think of the Republican Candidates?

The Art of Seduction

Now that I've finished 'The 48 Laws of Power" by Robert Greene and re-read it in various order, I've moved on to his earlier book called, "The Art of Seduction."

Now in this one it literally gives you step by step instructions on how to win and dominate over someone. It relieves factual information through a variety of circumstances giving you options and advice on what exactly to do at opportune times. It doesn't assure that you will attain the woman of your dreams but through my 22 years of existence what I've read so far the book reveals a pretty good fucking way to approach and attack an issue, such as trying to date the girl of your dreams.

The cool thing about what I've read so far is that it's not just about women. It could easily be used as a tactic in the board room, or to convince your consumer that you're the person they should be dealing with. It's a solid way, with thoughtful advice on how to get people to obsess over you. The stereotypical Romeo articles that most guys read about women on the internet are pretty lame and end up with these average joes trying to get you to buy their book or DVD for sale. Avoid those articles and buy, "The Art of Seduction" by Robert Greene.

Here is a quick link fix to see what I'm talking about http://www.seductiontuition.com/robert-greene/art-of-seduction.html

Just sit back and enjoy as his idea of a thrill is more than one near death experience within a matter of minutes.
You can go for the ride without experiencing those actual near death scares.
The second is about the Go Pro Hero 2. A new kind of camera that has just come out. You definitely want one of these because they are kick ass. Checkout the views and uses that they have in this video. Makes you want to get one eh? 400 bucks. Where can I sign up and get sponsored?

Incredible video of one of my favorite wingsuiter/B.A.S.E. pilots. Corliss jumpes off Tianmen Mountain and goes right through a hole in a mountain. It's ridiculous. Watch it, learn it, get fueled by it. I still watch it and am amazed by it.

Winning the hearts and minds of others.

Before you decide to un-screw your head, know that attempting to win other people over is a futile effort. Some people are infamously lucky but at no point will you ever win everyone over, despite one's good looks and charisma.

It's tough and we all do it. At some point, sometimes when we don't even know it, we try to win others over by promising empty things or by trying too hard. This in turn may make people hate you. Accept the simple fact that you will not please everyone in your life. You will be bound to piss someone (it will be massive amounts of people whether you know it or not) off throughout the course of your life. Often we make the mistake of being too honest, or by hiding something that comes out later. You've got to just accept it and not let these minor annoyances of human error get to you. This all stems from a momentary lapse I had with a few friends today in which I could feel their apparent anger through the frailty of their words.

In my case I would much rather have someone tell me that I am doing a shitty job to my face, rather than get the vibe or hear through the grapevine that they're pissed off about something. It's too often in today's society that people try to send messages through subtle hints, and when others don't understand them people get pissed off. Girls are infamous for attempting subtle hints. Don't mix your words in messages, be forthcoming in your speech and things will unmask in your daily activities.

Lastly, to bring this full circle, just accept that despite your potential good looks, award winning achievements, awesome stories, and near perfect charisma that not everyone will be 'won over' by you. This goes for me as well and my sometimes feigning of a cocky attitude has cost me a bit more than I would have liked in certain situations. So, I beg of you to not attempt to win other people over with anything but you being you. Anything else people will see through and quickly poke holes in your overreaching defense.

If you can relate to this, or have a story yourself, I'd love to hear it. - Cam

Photos of The Day: Ultimate Frisbee

A photo from our ultimate frisbee tournament at the University of New Hampshire. My buddy andrew is on the left and I'm in the center wearing the classic leather. Boom.
Below is a few of our other photos from other tournaments that I've created in photoshop. Love our team! Keene State Ultimate.

The ex Factor.

Look, we are all humans. And like humans we all have emotions. Chances are your google searches for questions to your ex problems have led you here. Whether you're searching for ways to get him or her back, or trying to figure out how to get over them, let me help you out with a few gratifying pieces of knowledge I have learned so far.

Now, I've had my hands full with emotions, and been beaten down in terms of bad relationship business and the truth is that we all will be at some point in our lifetimes. You need to understand that controlling your emotions is the key whether getting over it, trying to win them back, dealing with them dating someone else  or whatever your final goal will be. Let me hit you with a few steps in order to help you achieve your final destination.

#1 Make a final goal.
What the hell do you want? Do you want them back, or do you want to get over them? Figure it out so you can start making progress in whatever direction you ultimately want to heading in.

#2 Control Your Emotions.
You've got to learn how to keep your mouth closed. If you've ever come across the infamous never-ending talker you'll notice that these people tend to hang themselves with their own words. There are huge benefits to the, "out of sight out of mind" quote. But believe that when you stop mentioning your ex in daily conversation, you will be amazed by the progress you make and much less you think about them. Fight your emotions, and get busy living or get busy crying.

#3 Stay Active.
If you've got to write yourself motivational post it notes then do it. One of the biggest things is accepting that you're going to feel shitty at some point. Male or female we all have emotions that we're going to suffer from especially when dealing with an ex. They are going to date, and do whatever they can to get over you or get you back. And if you both aren't on the same page, which is ever rarely the case, then you've got to exude confidence and show that you are 're-inventing' yourself to the max. Start saying hello to strangers, force yourself to go to the gym and do things you hadn't before. You will derive awesome confidence by pushing yourself out of the box. Immerse yourself in a whole new world of activities, hang out with friends and do whatever you gotta do to get your mind distracted. Excess in drugs or alcohol will not help you.

Picture of The Day.

Pick and Roll.

I'll delve into more details later, but just know that when life throws you a curve ball you've got one of two options. Stand there and get hit or move out of the way.

Going with the flow requires a lot of effort on your part. Sometimes we as people get thrown off our track, and through my 22 years thus far I feel as if I'm increasingly learning that instead of swimming up stream you've got to turn it around and make that river yours.

So whatever mini-situation (remember there's always someone better or worse off than you) that you're dealing with, keep the pick and roll technique in mind and you cannot be defeated.

Make those problems of today objects of laughter later.

Good luck- Cam

Rosy Red Cheeks.

You clearly remember the days when you would get red in the cheeks when you liked a girl, or even were attempting to get her number in high school. But I bet you never imagined it would happen to you in college, at least I didn't. And to my amazement I've struggled the past few weeks.

Being a senior in college, and with enough confidence to get me through it with relative ease, I never expected to have issues when trying to get girls, and as of last I have. Who knows, is it a funk? Am I messing up? Is my notoriety up?

Perhaps its the loads of course work and not being organized enough. I can feel it in my bones you know? I'm trying to shake it, and in the past I've written a number of articles on how to get out of a funk, or just advise people to go to the gym. But it's funny, maybe I'm giving bad advice? Cause I'm starting to notice a trend of these stupid problems that keep re-occurring.

On the search for a lady friend for the winter season I'm struggling, and I don't like it. Sometimes you can be your own worst enemy, and I can sure as hell kick my own ass sometimes. I'll let you know how if I can stop acting like a 6th grader anytime soon.

I can feel it. It's time for a change. I'll keep ya posted, especially if I get that cute girls number. - Cam

video of the day: Wingsuit Mountain Carving.

Wingsuit Mountain Carving.

This is unreal. I'm in class right now pretending to do some digital journalism homework, but instead I've been drooling over Team Phoenix Flight, who are some badass wingsuit pilots. Just watch the above video.

Nothing like some near death experiences first thing in the morning to wake you up.

Blake Mycoskie is a genius.

I'm currently reading, "Start something that matters." by Blake Mycoskie, the revolutionary person who started the TOMS company.

In the book, Blake describes the story of TOMS and how he began his first steps, after a few failures early on, Blake eventually developed the idea of starting TOMS on a trip to Argentina. While I'd like to give you a high synopsis on the book, I really have only started it. Take comfort in the idea that Blake's shoe company takes the idea of selling one pair of shoes, and donating the other pair to a child in need in a third world country. The idea has turned into a great success and Blake's company has greatly taken off. Anyway if you get a chance, go pick up his book. I will keep you updated on more of the stuff that comes out of the book. I can't wait to keep reading it, as it's hopefully stirring up some deep motivation in me.

Shorter days, shorter tempers.

So when the leaves finally begin to fall, and the days start to be a little bit shorter, we all find ourselves with a little bit less patience. Personally for me, the holidays, more importantly Christmas time just doesn't seem to be what it has always been played out to be. The packed shopping malls and too many people fussing about signals to me that it's more about the materialization of society, rather than spending time with family. Perhaps I'm getting older, perhaps I'm a bit more cynical, but every year I just get a little bit less patient and find myself wishing I was further away from those sardine-like shopping malls and somewhere else shredding down the mountain on my Forum 161 Wide Snowboard. But that's just me.

It's a lovely Sunday afternoon, and despite the incessant amount of work that I've got to do, I'm going to be listening to this song before ultimate frisbee practice, and definitely later on when the stress has finally subsided, either way it'll get me through the day. It's my all time favorite death metal band that has just come out with a new CD Check it out below.

Skydive Videos are the best....and the scariest.

I could literally watch these all day, and if you continue to check this blog you're going to be in for a treat.
Premature deployments in skydiving suck, they are also terrifying and are never 'wished upon' somebody because they can indeed be catastrophic. Being a experienced skydiver, you must be prepared for any and all malfunctions, and it can be to your advantage to understand what some of these look like. Here are a few examples listed below. I hope you can learn something from this, and all  understand that there is indeed so much to skydiving and all of its participants.

Good luck and god speed.

Head down premature deployment.

Sit Fly premature deployment.

Music of the Times

Halloween means many things for all different age groups. Now that I've gotten older and developed some of my tastes (not for candy) I've started to integrate myself with different sorts of music according to the weather.

Now, we just got a foot of snow, and usually when the weather turns colder and temperatures drop, peoples attitudes slide down, and their patience wanes. One of the main reasons I listen to more death metal and grindcore in the winter time. It just suites my mood so to speak. So tonight, being Halloween, and nearly a foot of snow on the ground, I leave you with a taste of what gets me going at the gym. No worries if you don't like it, I simply like it for the energy, the drive, and the kick ass drums that ensue along with the shredding guitar.

Back to Blogging.
I've taken a considerable amount of time off from writing willy nilly articles on the internet, and now that I've had some time to re-collect, mature, and develop some real thoughts and ideas as to what I'm actually going to be doing in life, I figured it's time I started writing again.

Senior year in college is tough, no doubt. While most are still en route to raging it out on the weekends like they've done since freshmen year, it's surely going to be a downfall as the weeks start running by and the time runs out on your , 'youth'.

So what do we do to combat this inevitable fall from the best four years of your life?

You major in some sort of specialization, which in hope, will land you a job when you get the swift kick in the butt from college. Here's your diploma, now go support the economy and don't forget to reproduce.

I'm majoring in journalism, and what made me decide to put down mt "Telling True Stories" book and assigned reading is that on page 12, one of the contributing writers wrote down that the reason 'why we as journalists like to write, is because we find some humane aspect in talking to people, and wanting to share the lessons learned.

This in turn are my exact reasons for blogging. While my un-edited sarcasm, and ruthless thoughts may sometimes run-amuck here on the itnernet, I'm simply trying to share and edit my life stories in hopes that my thoughts will provoke, alter, and temporarily allow you to see through a different window. While you may not agree, or have opposing thoughts, we as humans can't exchange information or opinions without verbally communicating, or by passing 'articles' to each other in the forms of words and other texts such as books and newspapers.

With this, I hope you can learn something from my youthful expressions and hypercharged writings.

"Fatal Distraction"

You should take the time to read this article below. It was a Pulitzer Prize winning story and deserves the recognition it was given. Please read.

http://www.pulitzer.org/works/2010-Feature-Writing

Passed down from a father.

My Dad emailed me this article. It's true and I think everyone should read it.

Again, this is NOT my work.

I’ve hired my fair share of people now (fired them too) and having been through the ringer of young-person-just-starting-out close to a half dozen times, I figure I know it better than just about anyone. You’re scared but overconfident, clueless but eager to learn, just glad to be given a shot. I tried to think of a few things I wish I’d been told when I was just starting, things that would have saved me from screwing up. These are the things I still tell myself.
-Calm down.
-Assess the terrain. Sit there and observe. Figure out who the dominant personality types are, what makes them tick and how things really work. Don’t act, don’t give your opinion, don’t do anything until this has been done. When you understand the people, politics and the business (eg, the terrain) then you can begin to get to work.
-Always say less than necessary.
-The point isn’t just to prove that you’re capable, but also that you’re sane. In fact, if you had to pick between the two, being well-adjusted the better one. You can teach people how to do things. You can’t make them normal. In other words, leave your crazy at home.
-Stay on the radar. Your excuses need to just not-flimsy enough that they don’t seem completely full of shit. If it passes that test, then any question, any update, any offer to worth using to stay in the frame
.
-Don’t be too good at being an assistant (or an intern). In fact, the whole point is to be too good to be wasting your time and other people’s time at administrative shit that you mess up anyway.
-Remember, most people on the internet are losers and outsiders. “Don’t go expecting Plato’s Republic,” Marcus Aurelius would remind himself. Don’t go expecting Seth Godin, Jeff Jarvis or [insert industry blogger here]. Whatever you do, don’t quote them. Your job is to successfully mitigate their vision of how the World Magically Should Be with how it Realistically Is. If you can do that, you’re more revolutionary than they will ever be.
-If you’re working all the time—that is, if you don’t get to leave the office until midnight and got there at 5am—you’re doing something wrong. You’re either working for an idiot who is going to burn you out, or you’re the idiot and you haven’t figured out the short cuts. For a while I had 3 full time jobs (ones you’d have killed for) at the same time. I wasn’t working all hours of the same, I just did them simultaneously.
-Steer clear of the charlatans, lifers, and the toxic. You become who you know.
-On the same note, you can probably skip most of the “social” activities the job requires. Introductory calls, lunch meetings, parties and conferences are usually a waste. Don’t be friendless and don’t be rude, but these things are mostly collective effort to waste time and forget how unhappy everyone is. Besides, being the conspicuous absence can help build your reputation, if done right.
-Ask yourself: “Am I saying this because I want to prove how smart I am or am I saying this because it needs to be said?” When you’re just getting started, it’s usually the former.
-Forget credit. Fucking forget it so hard you’re glad when other people get it instead of you. After all, that’s your job—to make other people look better.
-Save your money. The smaller your nut each month, the less pressure you’ll feel to put up with stupid shit. It gives you the luxury of not being dependent on the system. It lets you see through it. (see: The Dress Suit Bribe)
-Write your own rules. Forget the bullshit ones (dress code, hours, hierarchy etc), follow the critical ones (getting results, never offend the wrong person) and do whatever you want. Seriously.
-Educate yourself. No one is ever going to teach you enough or hand it to you on a platter. Books and articles, and ask questions—an endless amount of them. People love to give advice and they love people who they don’t feel they have to drag to the next level.
-Have an exit strategy. Know how this all fits into your grand strategy, this is the Start-Up of You. But also have the easily explainable, non-threatening goal that you tell people so you can maneuver in peace. If you’re working at a management company, don’t tell everyone your goal is to be a stand up comedian. The grand strategy is just for you.
-Don’t expect anyone else to understand. It’s your job to find a release and an outlet for the stress and the feelings. Never forget: the crazy stays at home.
-Relax.
Most importantly, remember that you are not special. There were a million other kids on this path before you and there will be another million after. Most of them either went nowhere or turned out to be nothing. Even the successful ones might still flame out or be assholes. What does this mean? It means don’t get high on yourself. Don’t tell yourself a story. Be quiet, work hard, and stay healthy. It’s not ambition or skill that is going to set you apart—notice I didn’t mention those things a single time. It’s safe to assume you’ve already got them covered. What will set you apart, what is rare, is humility, diligence and self-awareness.
One last thing. You can always email me (as many of you have taken it upon yourself to do). I’ve been there. I’m still there in some ways. But like I said, I’ve been through this ringer more times and with more riding on it than most people. I’m happy to help.

Hurricane Irene Post.

The wickedness of Hurricane Irene may have spared the Keene community, but the sister city of Brattleboro, Vermont is still drying out from the torrential flooding.

With Hurricane Irene stampeding through 12 states and leaving a devastating wave of attack that included millions of people without power and over 44 deaths, people will not be forgetting this one anytime soon. At least three of these deaths have been recorded in the state of Vermont where 1 death occured in the flooded town of Wilmington, just south of the famous ski resort Mount Snow.
A spokeswoman for the Mount Snow business cooperations named Leah described the effects on the region of Wilmington and West Dover, "It was a really rainy summer and with all the rain we got everything just slowly started flooding. It wasn't going to stop either."
State Governor of Vermont Peter Shumlin issued a statement saying that, "Irene whacked us hard." And with Vermont having an especially rainy summer, government officials issued warnings before Hurricane Irene that some of the major rivers had yet to crest, making flood predictions almost imminent.
Effects of Hurricane Irene were felt in the Keene, New Hampshire region less than a week after the northeast had recorded it's first sizeable earthquake in a considerable amount of time. While Keene did experience high winds and major flood warnings, the valley in which Keene lies may have helped stifle the ferocity of Irene.
Meanwhile, the sister city of Brattleboro, Vermont was devastated with major flooding in the downtown area. One detailed account from a worker at the Lepage Bakery named Victoria described the downtown flooding as, "It was as if someone just left all the faucets on, the downtown theatre was completely soaked and all the stores on the bottom are demolished. It's more than a mess."
While other folks living in the Brattleboro region weren't directly affected due to being farther away from the rivers and being on higher elevation, some business were still clearly disrupted.
Pro-Shop employee at the Brattleboro Country Club Eric, described business operations as, "clearly affected from a financial standpoint. There's no damage here but people can't get home and that means they can't come here. It's put a damper on business." The country club plans to re-open it's doors on the 31st of August.
While a number of business have been out of commission for days in the downtown Brattleboro area, aid from out of state has been pouring in. Estimated insurance costs and re-construction guesses are as high as seven billion dollars throughout the entire state of Vermont. Even with the extra National Guard stationed in Vermont, Governor Shumlin expects the road to recovery, "to be a long one."

Hormones

You want to know what I think about hormones getting in the way of daily activities?

Almost unbearable. Get your mind out of the gutter. Woof.

Monday, August 1, 2011

Verb. It's what you should do.

Back on earth it's all you'll read about, the do's and do not's of dieting and exercise.

Well luckily for you, your genes have mostly taken care of that. Whether it be that you are tirelessly overworked, and attempt to substitute lack of sleep for more cups of coffee, or just shamefully embarassed that you've skipped out on many of your workouts that you planned for last New Years day, something has got to change.

Your attempts at exercise hit the fan when you get too busy.

I've noticed it myself, I'm grumpy, I'm hungry, I have way less energy than I normally do, and it interferes with the habits of a daily life and all the challenges it brings.

Seriously, the amount of things I get done at school completely blow what I'm attempting to do out of the water, and I've got to point my finger to exercise alone.

There are many certain elements one must 'do' to create a well balanced life style for sure, but ask anyone around, the people that exercise well (I'm not just talking about taking your poodle for a walk) but real hardcore exercising , like those girls that do pilates right before dinner time) will run circles around you. Whether it be in the classroom, on the field, or in the office, you've got to burn the bad energy before getting to the good energy. Plus you get these little funny feelings of joy when your body is being active.

The point is, if you're looking for the solution to mix up your life cause you're bored, or unhappy, or just looking to get out of a funk. Get up and find the time to go to the gym. How Ironic is it that I skipped going to the gym tonight to write this article? Whatever, get up and mix it up, see you out there kids.

Suck it up cupcake!

Long Time no see. At least that's what it feels like.

Well here I am, almost two weeks later, back to writing in my blog. Still unsure of what to blog about, I haven't been feeling very passionate about anything. I've been in a bit of a zombie mode you could say. Whether at work or at home, I just don't speak with anyone about much. The only signs of life I seem to give off are minor hindrances of sarcasm that reveal my anger.

You could say I'm in a bit of a funk, and how ironic it is that earlier in the summer I wrote blog posts about how to get out of a funk. Perhaps I should follow my own accord and try to burn off this anger and wild energy I've been putting out. If only there was some way to put a pause on one's lifestyle to take some time and figure out what is truly going on.

But alas, time goes on with or without you. And as the words of a fellow co-worker echo through my head as the words, "SUCK IT UP CUPCAKE" seem to shatter my every thought when I find myself pissing and moaning about the small ignorant shit that seem to partially incapacitate me from time to time.

The lackluster amount of sleep I get and double shifts seem to have impaled my social life for now. While my fellow 21 year olds are making meager amounts of money, but somehow continuing to party like rockstars, I find myself in zombie mode consistently with such a deprived sense of passion to drive me to do anything.

Woof. And so the words of an Australian co-worker at a skydiving facility will forever kick me in the ass as I pass on the message to you, and only for you just to say, "Suck it up Cupcake."

Sitfly... my next hill to climb.

Click on the link, it's the next big advancement in skydiving I'm looking to do once I get to 100 jumps. For now I think I'll just watch and be jealous. It's called Sit flying and you go like 200 mph. Sick.

Tireless Efforts

Time flys by when your having fun, but what about when your stressed out?

Time does run by quite fast when your stressed out believe it or not. Whether it's work stress, or relationship stress, any number of preceding factors and combinations have now led me to believe that time goes by way way faster when your stressed out. In fact it seems to go by the quickest. Now it's not necessarily the best way to make time go by fast, ( No one want's to be stressed out all the time) but just looking back, my summer has gone by extremely fast because I've mixed in bits of fun with the amount of stress and working everyday.

Blogging has become an essential part for me to help stabilize within the stress. It's allowed me to reflect on things I've done over the past couple days and really slow down. By writing about events of categories of things that have occupied my mind over the few days in between my blog posts I help clear up some space in my head. Before I'd find myself going to the gym to sweat out the stress from my very pores just to feel some sort of relief. While my schedule in the mean time has taken a dip in the availability department, I feel as if writing (not only for me) but for anyone can be an excellent way to slow down and capture what exactly it is that's filling up your brain bucket.

Quick update: I've been at 58 skydives for close to a week with no advancement of getting to 100 before I go back to school. I now have 30 days to make 42 skydives and get to my first milestone in my skydiving career.
I've still got to pay for my school bill ( $2,300 ) and buy a few things such as a parking pass for school and buy books. Woof. I probably should have stuck to the motto of, 'Work smarter, not harder' to help me make more cash this summer. Eh whatever, it's all part of those tireless efforts we all strive to achieve.

Offer to write for Blue Skies Mag.

I just got a twitter message today asking if I wanted to submit articles for publishing for Blue Skies Mag. This is big news. Here's the letter I sent to the editor asking what she wants for articles. Check out their website in the meantime. www.blueskiesmag.com . Hopefully this turns out to be the incredible opportunity I've been hoping for, all I have to do is write some kick ass articles about skydiving stuff. Sounds easy enough right? Wouldn't be too hard if I had more than a year and a half in the sport. Yikes, guess it's time to brush up on my skydiving history and miscellaneous info...Here's what I wrote to the editor.

Hello Lara,
I got a message from Kolla today via twitter about contributing to Blue Skies Mag. I was beyond stoked to read that message and I'd love to submit articles for print. I'm a newly licensed jumper with only a year and a half in the sport with 53 jumps currently and I'm in my second year working at Skydive New England up in Lebanon, Maine. Also I'm a journalism major at Keene State College in New Hampshire, with one more year to go and my goals are to travel, write, chuck tandems as soon as possible and continue on with my sarcasm as I traverse the world. Now, I understand writing for magazines is a bit different than writing for newspapers and such so I figured I'd ask what it is your exactly looking for. I read the contribute aspects page on the Blue Skies Mag website. But in terms of physical stories I figured going with what I know (manifest stuff and new jumper stuff, and other miscellaneous stories from DZ's) would be a great way to start. Also, my good friends named Kyle Jervis and Harry Parker from SNE take amazing photographs and I figured with their help we could give Blue Skies mag an incredible showing from the North East for quite some time. Obviously payment is nothing we're concerned about, as it would be an honor to write for Blue Skies. If you'd like to just shoot me an e-mail back regarding more specifics of what you're looking for, I'd be happy to start hitting you with some articles by the end of the week! Thanks again for this awesome opportunity! - Cam King @ Skydive New England. (A-060620)

Life is crazy, so stop worrying so god damn much. Sincerely, your author. - Cam King

Overcommitting yourself is a lot like quick sand.

So I find myself typing here more than a week after my latest blog post. It's not that there haven't been any interesting things to blog about, certainly the American debt ceiling, and 4th of July parties are just mere crests in the sea of epic things that have been going on.

Something that I've been thinking more and more about is a persons commitment to something. Whether it be an activity or hobby of interest, commitment always comes into it before the passion fueled for that recreation. With the whole idea of commitment I can't help but also think about how easy it is to become over committed. It's super easy to just sign up for too much. Something that I am afraid I've fallen victim too.

In my efforts to list off the activities and interests and hobbies, and other assorted tasks that I am currently signed up for, I feel this overwhelming feeling of tension. It's a sort of tension where I am striving for more, pulling for more, but am not getting the energy and attention I need to fully succeed in the areas I'm set up in. And it's extremely frustrating because once somebody develops passion for a multitude of things, it becomes very difficult to let those interests go.

Now, I understand I am only but a fraction of the population whose lives are probably filled with over commitment, but I urge you here to take a step back and wonder if the activities you are pursuing, (interests, hobbies, or whatever time consuming activities that may be) are actually taking away from your inner drive. Some people do well having several main plugs into their inner drive, while others can deal with hundreds of smaller habits. Whatever the case is, if you feel you are over committed, just remember you can always change to suit your best needs and wants.

Another Recession? Keep your eyes peeled for August 2nd.

I found this post on HUFFINGTONPOST.COM and I do not own the rights or any part of this article at all, but merely I am sharing it because the American debt ceiling is trying to be raised by the government, and Republicans said 'we have to try' to get this fixed before our economy crashes again. Clearly they're putting every piece of motivation into this. Just take a quick read...

Debt Ceiling Talks: Mitch McConnell, Jon Kyl Firm On Taxes Ahead Of Obama Meeting (VIDEO)

(Reuters) - The Senate's top two Republicans on Sunday stood firm against including tax increases in any deal to raise the debt limit and shrink budget deficits one day before a meeting with President Barack Obama, but said the showdown need not go down to the "11th hour."
Obama is to meet separately with Senate Democratic and Republican leaders on Monday to try to revive negotiations that collapsed on Thursday when Republicans walked out over Democrats' demands for tax increases.
Sending a message to Obama in appearances on Sunday news interview shows, Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell and Jon Kyl, his deputy in the leadership, presented a unified front demanding spending cuts and opposing tax hikes.
"We have a spending problem. We don't have a problem because we tax too little," McConnell said on the ABC program "This Week."
"We need to quit borrowing, quit spending, and get us our trajectory heading in the right direction. Throwing more tax revenue into the mix is simply not going to produce a desirable result, and it won't pass," McConnell added.
Obama said on Saturday he remained committed to working with Congress to solve the government's debt problem, but the focus could not be only on spending cuts, as Republicans demand.
The $14.3 trillion U.S. debt ceiling must be raised before August 2 or the Treasury Department will run out of money to pay the nation's bills. A default on debt payments could send markets plunging globally and raise the risk of another U.S. recession.
"One of the reasons we are meeting tomorrow (Monday) is that I think both the Democrats and the Republicans would like to come together and finish this negotiation and finish it sometime soon. It need not necessarily go to the 11th hour," McConnell said.
"We need to put something together that will actually pass and make a difference, impress Standard & Poor's and Moody's and the rating agencies that are about to downgrade the U.S. credit rating for the first time in our history," he added.
'KILL THE ECONOMY'
The U.S. federal deficit stands at $1.4 trillion, among the highest levels relative to the economy since World War Two.
Speaking on "Fox News Sunday," Kyl said "we have to try" to get a deal by August 2.
"I think the president has to make a decision -- which is more important to him: solving this problem, reducing spending somewhat, or making sure that we raise taxes on American economy?" Kyl said.
"If you want to kill the economy, raise taxes. Are we going to vote to absolutely put another anchor around the neck of the economy, which is struggling to try to recover here? Absolutely not. It's terrible policy," Kyl added.
Democrats have eased back from their insistence that personal income tax rates need to rise on the wealthiest Americans to focus instead on ending a wide range of tax breaks on everything from corporate jets to oil and gas subsidies.
They have also proposed closing tax breaks that benefit the wealthy, such as limiting the deductions for households making more than $500,000 a year.
Republicans control the House of Representatives while the Democrats control the Senate.
Appearing on CNN's "State of the Union" program, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said Democrats must have a say in crafting an agreement, especially if Republicans in the chamber cannot generate enough support on their own to pass a final plan.
Pelosi said any package that only cuts spending is unworkable, suggesting that closing what she and other Democrats call corporate "tax subsidies" for oil companies and other businesses should be included in any deal.
"You cannot achieve what you set out to do if you say it's just about cutting. It has to be about increasing the revenue stream as well. There are many things you can do in terms of special interest loopholes," Pelosi said.
Republican Senator Jim DeMint, a favorite of the conservative Tea Party movement advocating deep spending cuts, said he believes the United States would not default on its obligations if Congress fails to raise the debt ceiling.
"If we add another $2 trillion to our debt without taking control of it, I think you're going to see the markets respond in a much worse way," DeMint said on CNN.
